What information I collect and why

When you sign up for my newsletter

If you subscribe to my email list, I collect your email address and, where provided, your name. I use this to send you the NK the Marketer newsletter, interview digests, and occasional updates about new content. I will never send you spam or sell your email address to anyone.

Legal basis (GDPR): Consent - you actively signed up.

When you contact me

If you use the contact form on this site, I collect your name and email address, along with the content of your message. I use this only to respond to your inquiry.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interests - responding to a message you sent me.

Automatically collected information (analytics & tracking)

When you visit this site, certain information is collected automatically through Google Analytics and HubSpot tracking. This may include:

  • Your approximate location (country/city level)

  • Pages you visit and how long you spend on them

  • The device and browser you're using

  • How you found the site (e.g., Google, social media, direct link)

We use this information in aggregate to understand how visitors use the site so I can improve it. It does not identify you personally.

  • Newsletter subscribers: Until you unsubscribe, after which your data is deleted within 30 days.

  • Contact form inquiries: Up to 12 months, unless there is an ongoing reason to keep the correspondence.

  • Analytics data: As configured in Google Analytics and HubSpot (typically 26 months).

Your rights

If you are based in the EU, Norway, or the UK, you have the following rights under GDPR:

  • Right to access - you can ask what data I hold about you

  • Right to correction - you can ask me to correct inaccurate data

  • Right to erasure - you can ask me to delete your data ("right to be forgotten")

  • Right to restrict processing - you can ask me to limit how I use your data

  • Right to data portability - you can ask for a copy of your data in a usable format

  • Right to object - you can object to certain uses of your data

  • Right to withdraw consent - where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Norway, this is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no). In other EU countries, contact your national data protection authority.

Data security

I take reasonable steps to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Data is stored and processed by the third-party services listed above, each of which maintains their own security standards.

That said, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you have concerns, please contact me directly.

International data transfers

Some of the services I use (including Google and HubSpot) are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is done so under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

I may update this policy from time to time. When I do, I will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, I will notify newsletter subscribers by email.
